Milan Ciszewski (PL)
video installation, 2024

From the artist: “At a certain point, the habit began to verge on obsession – I carried the scanner everywhere – almost every surface seemed to me a carrier of expression.”

Listen to the artist in English:

A video work depicting a series of scans I collected of the walls of Poznan tenement buildings. In a way, as a flâneur, though not without a purpose, I roamed the streets of Poznań, exploring staircases, gates, and corridors – “hidden” places with a particularly high density of semiosis, existing outside the official structure of the city.

As a result of my incessant search for images, I created an archive, which is an attempt to capture what usually goes unnoticed, hiding from the reach of superficial perception.

Milan Ciszewski – visual artist, graduate of the Department of Intermedia at the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of Arts in Poznan. He works in the field of video-art and graphics, and his artistic practice oscillates around the issues of chance, error and exploration of the materiality of the image. Using digital techniques, he reinterprets their functions, looking for new ways of imaging and deconstructing visual structures.

He has collaborated with the Katowice Sound Department, V9 Gallery and Gooiland Elektro and Pointless Geometry, among others. His work Symulator Emisji Splotu was presented as part of the Solarium of the New Theater in Warsaw.
