Translocation

Kolektyw Zbiór (PL)
site-specific installation, 2025

An attempt to relocate the Serwis Gallery Studio to a different space, posing a question about the essence of a place.

The exhibition presents a relocated “space” – taken from a specific point on the map and portrayed in a different, foreign context. It is an interpretation, transformation, and, at times, deformation of the place. The work attempts to answer the question of how far it is possible to reflect the character of a specific location in a new environment.

Surrealistically juxtaposed in a panoramic whole, large-format photographs transport the viewer to the Serwis studio gallery. The objects associated with the Service—such as an armchair, a table, a printer, or a refrigerator—present in the Mediateka space deepen the impression of immersion. These objects gain new meanings and narratives through visual modifications, becoming carriers of multithreaded stories about the place.

Zbiór Collective is an independent, interdisciplinary art group in Wroclaw that has been operating since 2020. Its members include Kasia Banasiak, Iga Bujarkiewicz, Zuzanna Chęcińska, Kinga Gralak, Justyna Kazanecka, Zuzanna Kliniewska, Jan Kowalski, and Kacper Wiatrak.

Since 2022, the collective has run Serwis Studio and Gallery, an independent, non-commercial art space in a former bicycle workshop in Gajowice, Wrocław. Serwis is both a place for daily creative work and a platform for periodic exhibitions, workshops, concerts, and cultural events. There is also a Szybka Gallery at the studio – a 24-hour exhibition site presenting one works by a selected artist each month.

The collective is an active contributor to the Polish independent scene. In 2024, it won the Off Space program run by BWA Wrocław and was nominated for the “Warto” Award given by Gazeta Wyborcza in Wrocław. They co-organize Wrocław Off Gallery Weekend, an independent art festival that has already had two editions.
