A Large Language Model trained on the literature of Jorge Luis Borges – a labyrinth encoded in words.
An integrated control panel allows the human observer to manipulate this numerical translation of letters, destabilizing the fragile equilibrium of coherence and thus turning the AI itself into a “feverish Library, whose random volumes constantly threaten to transmogrify into others, so that they affirm all things, deny all things, and confound and confuse all things, like some mad and hallucinating deity.” (Borges, 1941)
Eugénie Desmedt lives and works in Vienna. She researches conflicting senses of agency and control at the interface between installation, media art, and language art at the interface of physical and digital space. Eugénie studied at the University of Warwick, the University of Vienna, and the University for Applied Arts Vienna. Her work has been shown in galleries, backyards, festivals, abandoned houses, friends’ flats, and former caserns. She is pursuing a PhD with the Robopsychology Lab at the Linz Institute of Technology.
