I can’t talk.
I can’t talk.

I can’t talk.

Igor Warykiewicz (PL)
audio drama, installation, 2024

The Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Katowice
A narrative from the world of addicts and codependents. Presented as an immersive audio drama with visuals a tale about loneliness and the search for a way out.

The audio drama, combined with visuals and set design, tells a fictional story about Kuba, a young man addicted to different substances, primarily alcohol.

As a result of his traumatic experiences, shortly after the death of his father, Kuba moved out of the house and almost broke off contact with his mother and brother. A sense of guilt that arose immediately after leaving the family home fuels the symptoms of his disorder. The play touches on Kuba’s relationship with the world around him, his family, and himself.

This fictional story contains experiences of people with addictions and those on the other side – codependents and adult children of alcoholics. It shows what the everyday life of an addicted person can look like and how difficult their first step towards improving their condition can be.

The script was made in cooperation with friends, psychologists, and representatives of the Wysoki Zamek Club – a place that brings together addicts and people in crisis of homelessness. It also includes the artist’s experiences and thoughts.

Igor Warykiewicz is a graphic design graduate of the The Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Katowice. He is constantly experimenting with new media, but he is most familiar with graphic and multimedia activities, and he mainly works with sound.
